The rainbow chart, in plain words.

Think of marks on a wall. A child stands by the wall each year. A line shows the growth path. This chart does that for price.

One line is fit to each past price. Nine bands of color wrap the line. Low bands are blue. High bands are red.

How the line is made

The line uses all past days at once. It is fit by least squares. The form is:

ln(price) = -37.283 + 5.597 x ln(days since Jan 3, 2009)

It uses 5,917 days of prices. They run from Aug 18, 2010 to Oct 29, 2026. Past prices are from blockchain.info.

What the bands mean

Each band is the same width in log space. The width is 0.3. Deep Blue is the base band. Red is the top band.

BandShare of past days
Deep Blue23 of 100 days
Sky13 of 100 days
Red2 of 100 days

Blue days are far more common than red days. That is a fact of the past data. It is not a tip.

Where the chart comes from

The rainbow is a public chart. A Reddit user, azop, drew the first one in 2014. A forum user, trolololo, drew the growth line. Blockchain Center made the chart famous. The line on this page is our own fit. It uses the same public price history.

Where the price sits now

On Oct 31, 2026, one coin cost $77,471. The line said $141,853. So the price sat in Deep Blue. It was 45% below the line.
